Company History

Incorporated in late 2003, Metronet provides a better-supported and independent alternative to fibre-based leased lines and a superior service to over-contended, under-supported ADSL and SDSL services.

As Metronet continues to enjoy profitable growth, the company is committed to upgrading its infrastructure and extending its reach to new regions.

Supporting clients throughout the entirety of Greater Manchester, Liverpool, Leeds, Birmingham, Bolton and Dublin. Metronet remains the only operator (other than BT) with no dependence on any other operator or supplier for its last mile service delivery. The core of Metronet’s network comprises multiple dark fibre rings, one encircling the City of Manchester, and additional rings connecting all major Manchester data centres (Telecity Williams, Telecity Kilburn, Synergy House, IFL2 and Netservices) as well as data centres in London (Telehouse North and Telehouse East). At the core of Metronet's operations, there is a fully Cisco-supported layer 3 network with connectivity to multiple transit providers including Level3, Global Crossing and Cogent.

Metronet’s last-mile circuits use carrier grade equipment from world leading suppliers of radio and microwave technology. By redesigning systems, investing in new equipment and improving facilities, Metronet has made its network the most powerful and resilient network available in the UK.
