Metronet connects giant ZOZZYTV Screens in Dublin

April 19, 2010

Metronet provides connectivity for revolutionary streetcaster with giant public space community TV screens in Grafton Street, Henry Street and Temple Bar Dublin.

Taking inspiration from 19th Century Dublin Street Entertainer, Zozimus, ZOZZYTV hit the streets of Dublin over Christmas with a pioneering public space TV concept that gave everyone an opportunity to be famous.

Taking the Youtube concept to a different level, zozzytv allows anyone to upload video content to be broadcast on giant TV screens placed at some of the busiest spots of Dublin.

Anyone can register with ZOZZYTV (www.zozzytv.com) and upload their own videos via the Streetcaster’s website or using their mobile telephone for transmission at a prescheduled time to allow them to view their own content being broadcast.

The Dublin scheme was a pilot for a concept that the Company expects to rollout to other major Cities and there are plans to install ZOZZYTV on a temporary basis for major sporting events where, for example, spectators will be able upload video for transmission in stadia, music venues, shopping centres, etc.

Giant screens were installed on the side of three buildings in Dublin to test the concept through the Christmas and January Sales periods.  Viral marketing saw an acceleration of uploads of an eclectic range of content with hundreds of videos having been broadcast and available at ZOZZYTV’s website which orders content by numbers of views, most comments, most popular and most highly rated.

Connectivity between ZOZZYTV and the screens is a key element of the service with video content being uploaded to screens throughout the day.

ZOZZTV decided from the outset that the application needed bandwidth and service quality associated with dedicated leased lines: notably, uncontended and fully symmetrical.

After enquiring with legacy network operators, it quickly became apparent that it was not going to be feasible to install leased circuits at short-notice into such challenging locations, especially for such a short contract period.

ZOZZYTV turned to Metronet which responded by designing and implementing the multi-site network inside five working days.

Since launch the connectivity has remained sufficiently robust to accommodate the demanding requirements of ZOZZYTV and the new street entertainment concept is proving a massive success with Dublin shoppers: so much so that ZOZZYTV were able to secure a prestigious contract with Vodafone as an anchor advertiser.

Commenting on the network implementation ZOZZYTV managing director, Billy Brennan said, “This has to be one of the most demanding IT projects around: where else would you find giant computer screens being attached to the sides of City Centre buildings to support a dynamic and interactive public entertainment facility.  That Metronet responded so quickly with a network infrastructure that delivers is real bonus for ZOZZYTV”.

Metronet's Ireland managing director, Martin Smyth has been equally pleased with the implementation, “If anyone needs reassurance about our ability to deliver high-speed multi-media communications they need look no further than this project.”
